EastEnders airs violent reunion for Cindy

EastEnders spoilers follow.

Cindy Beale has come face-to-face with mother-in-law Kathy Beale and former husband George Knight in a jaw-dropping EastEnders cliffhanger.

Monday's episode (August 28) saw Cindy turning up in Walford for the first time in 25 years, completely unaware that George and their daughters Anna and Gina were now running the Vic.

As Cindy reunited with son Peter, he took a desperate phone call from his father Ian trying to convince Peter to bring his mum back to France immediately.

While Peter was on the phone, Cindy slipped away from her son and went off to find mother-in-law Kathy Beale. Cindy had to dodge Walford residents she'd known before she faked her death, before finally arriving at No.45 for the fateful reunion.

Kathy was irate, accusing Cindy of taking advantage of Ian being gullible to win him around even after trying to have him killed back in the 1990s.

"It wasn't like that," Cindy insisted.

Cindy filled in some gaps from her backstory to explain she bonded with Ian again while grieving Stephen and Lucy together, before reaching out to Peter to "tell him the truth".

"Finally, I can be a mother again," Cindy told Kathy.

Cindy confessed that Peter had loaned her and Ian some of the money he'd stolen from Kathy to help get the couple back on their feet, leaving Kathy annoyed.

When Cindy made the mistake of calling Ben Mitchell "a right psycho", Kathy lashed out by slapping her across the face. Cindy returned the slap and soon the women were fighting.

In the midst of the chaos, Cindy bumped into a picture frame that shattered on the floor. The two women were stopped in their tracks when they discovered the photo was of Lucy Beale.

This moment thawed things between the two women, and they reminisced over their past. Kathy revealed to Cindy that she sends a Christmas card every year to Cindy Jr but never hears back.

Cindy broke down as she admitted she'd never reached out to Cindy Jr because she didn't think she had the right to uproot her life.

"I just want you to believe I am not the same person I used to be," Cindy swore to Kathy.

Kathy started to thaw to the possibility of Cindy, Ian and Peter moving back to Walford when she found out her son had a heart attack earlier in the year.

"It would probably be good for him to be back where he belongs," Cindy said.

Kathy refused to give Cindy "her blessing", but relented because Ian would do whatever he wanted anyway.

She did agree to letting Cindy help her prepare some canapes for a surprise birthday party at the Vic. Soon enough, Cindy was headed straight for the pub that her ex-husband now owned.

The episode closed with Ian arriving back in Walford just as Cindy was headed over to the Vic to join the surprise party for Anna — though she had no idea this Anna was her long-lost daughter.

Cindy was carrying a platter of food when Ian intercepted her, and he begged her to leave with him for the airport immediately. Cindy was confused by Ian's reaction, questioning why he wanted to rush her.

At that very moment, George Knight stepped out from the doors of the Vic for a breather. He turned to lock eyes with his former wife — and both were stunned.

Cindy was so shocked to see her ex-husband that she dropped the platter of food she was holding, while Ian panicked over the discovery. The fallout continues throughout the week…
