EastEnders star Brian Conley addresses Rocky Cotton's exit

EastEnders actor Brian Conley has spoken out about his character Rocky Cotton's dramatic departure from the soap.

In recent scenes, Rocky was arrested over the fire that he deliberately started at the café in order to fraudulently claim the insurance money, to pay off his debt to local villain Nish Panesar.

Following an emotional goodbye with estranged wife Kathy at the police station, Rocky agreed to Kathy's demand that he accept responsibility for what he did.

Kathy agreed to wait for him, but only to stop him from telling all on The Six.

Conley has now addressed his character's exit on Instagram, as he shared a photo of himself in character outside Walford East Station.

"Well Rocky, you pretended to be Sonia's Dad, Had two heart attacks, Married Kathy Beale, Met the King of England, Your best mate's with Harry Redknapp, You blew up the cafe, and had a pet parrot called Jasper," he wrote. "Gonna miss you, you old rascal. X".

Several of Conley's co-stars shared their love and best wishes with the actor, with Keanu Taylor actor Danny Walters commenting, "Pleasure working with you Brian", and Eve Unwin star Heather Peace writing, "Love ya Brian. I'll really miss you around the place. You're an absolute joy to hang out with".

Amy Mitchell star Ellie Dadd commented, "Ahhhh how I'm going to miss you so much Brian. All the best for the future you absolute legend", while Emma Barton (Honey Mitchell) and Jaden Ladega (Denzel Danes) also shared their support for him.

Milly Zero, who played Rocky's niece Dotty Cotton, also commented on the actor's farewell post, writing, "Love you Bri".

Conley first arrived in Walford as Rocky in May 2021, when he joined forces with Dotty to con Sonia Fowler by pretending to be her long-lost father.

He later embarked on a relationship with Kathy, although their trip down the aisle was delayed by the revelation that Rocky was still married to his former partner, Jo. Rocky has also struggled with a gambling addiction during his time in Albert Square.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
