EastEnders star Danny Walters explains Keanu twist

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders star Danny Walters, who plays Keanu Taylor on the BBC soap, has opened up about Lisa Fowler's surprise return to Walford.

In scenes set to air next week, Lisa gives Keanu an almighty shock when she returns to Albert Square with his daughter Peggy in tow.

"Having Lisa back on the Square definitely takes Keanu by surprise. His whole world is really turned 180 when he finds out that she's here," Walters explained.

The soap star continued: "Keanu instantly falls in love with Peggy, which viewers will see. She's adorable, she's amazing, she's beautiful.

"There's always going to be that very deep, subconscious love for his daughter and that instantly hits Keanu so hard."

However, when Keanu asks to spend some more time with Peggy, Lisa reveals that she's strapped for cash and lays out her hefty financial demands.

Since Keanu hasn't been there for Peggy "emotionally or financially" over the years and knows he has to "make amends," Walters said that Keanu understands when Lisa requests the money.

The only issue now is that Keanu must choose between paying for his and Sharon's dream wedding or paying Lisa to see his daughter, so he turns to Reiss for help and later makes a shocking move.

"He's led by his emotions and he does make a lot of bad decisions because of that. Lisa starts to get a bit too greedy and asks for a large sum of money, which isn't really justified," Walters continued.

"But she knows that by this point, Keanu is emotionally hooked on his daughter. It's the first time Reiss has experienced Keanu in that underworld he sometimes gets himself involved in - not by choice, but out of desperation."

The actor added: "I think Keanu is very scared about going down the same tracks of his father, being an absent father and so he is desperately trying to go against that.

"He'd be willing to fight anyone and anything to prove himself as a good dad. Hopefully a lot of people out there in Keanu's position will hopefully understand."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
