EastEnders star Gillian Taylforth teases Kathy and Cindy scenes

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders star Gillian Taylforth has teased an explosive reunion for Kathy and Cindy Beale.

Kathy will undoubtedly be shocked when her son Ian Beale returns to Walford with ex-wife Cindy in tow since the family has been led to believe that Cindy died in childbirth in the 1990s.

The revelation could be déjà vu for Kathy since she too reappeared in her son Ian's life several years after supposedly being killed in a car accident in South Africa.

Teasing the scenes ahead for Kathy and daughter-in-law Cindy, Taylforth revealed: "As you can imagine, Kathy and Cindy together, the woman that tried to have her son killed, and now she just returns from the dead. There were fireworks. "

She continued: "They were great scenes, well-written, and it was great to play those with Michelle [Collins]. It wasn't easy going, the scenes we did together. As you can imagine, fireworks were going left, right and centre in those scenes. They were great to film.

"It's a great story, because how can Kathy complain? She's done exactly the same thing. I'm sure that will come out in the scenes we are going to be doing. Like, you did exactly the same, Kathy! And what can Kathy say to that? She did it, and now Cindy's done exactly the same thing. The only thing was I didn't try to have my son killed, did I?"

That last comment is a reference to a notorious storyline from the 1990s where Cindy hired a hitman to kill Ian before having second thoughts at the eleventh hour.

There are more reasons than one for Kathy to be upset with Cindy since she's also struck up a friendship with the Queen Vic's new landlady Elaine Peacock.

Elaine's husband George was once married to Cindy, though the Knights seemingly don't know Cindy lived under the assumed name 'Rose Knight' the whole time she was with George.

"There’s a bit of a thing first of all with [Kathy] and Elaine but then they start to become good friends," Taylforth explained.

"That’s what Harriet [Thorpe] and I wanted. We sort of said, 'Let's do it so that we become, not the best of pals, but let's do it so that we are friendly with each other'."

She added: "The trouble is sometimes that they try to write — and I'm not just talking about EastEnders, I'm talking about everybody — they always want women to be having a go at each other. But that's not always the case. Sometimes you can have a friendship with people.

"I think Kathy and Elaine are relatively age-wise the same, so I think there could be a good friendship there. I certainly think it's someone she could go to with her problems with Cindy, and I think that she would help. Especially when you think of Cindy, George and Elaine's thing. You’ve got all that going on, so we probably could become firm friends in that way, sticking up for one another where she's concerned."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
