EastEnders star Navin Chowdhry calls for more Nish and Phil scenes

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders star Navin Chowdhry has called for more scenes between Nish Panesar and Phil Mitchell amid his ongoing Kat Mitchell storyline.

Recent weeks have seen Nish strike up an unlikely relationship with Phil's estranged wife Kat, however his dark intentions towards her quickly become apparent - with his behaviour set to become violent towards her in upcoming scenes.

Chowdhry has now weighed in on the storyline, and whether or not Nish should be scared of the repercussions of attacking Kat, saying he would love to film more scenes with Phil actor Steve McFadden.

"Nish isn't bothered about anybody, and he certainly isn't bothered about Phil," Chowdhry said of his character.

He continued: "I think he relishes in the antagonism and it’s a challenge for Nish which he feels totally ready for, but whether he is or not is something else. He doesn't fear Phil at all but there is an argument to suggest that he should."

Speaking about the potential for a future showdown between Nish and Phil, the actor revealed there "has always been a slight flirtation that it may or may not happen."

When asked if he'd like to see a future showdown between Nish and Phil, Chowdhry revealed he enjoys working with McFadden, saying: "Steve is a very popular character on set and I really enjoy working with him, so anything that we have has always been really nice to play with."

He continued: "I think the way that this story has evolved perhaps the audience feel that Nish deserves to have Phil set on him.

"I think Phil versus Nish is something that the audience would like to see."

Chowdhry previously touched on preparing for the upcoming dark scenes, saying he had grown up hearing similar stories from his mother, who ran a charity for victims of domestic abuse.

"My mum ran a charity for over twenty years for women of domestic abuse, so my mum spent her life protecting people like Kat from people like Nish," he said. "These are stories and human beings that I guess I grew up."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
