EastEnders - Suki Panesar's sinister story explained

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders aired the aftermath of Suki Panesar's shocking incident at home tonight (June 8), and we've been left with more questions than answers.

This week's scenes saw Suki make the decision to flee Walford with her lover Eve Unwin, but their plan drastically backfired at the eleventh hour.

Eve had spotted a plan to get Nish out of the picture for good, after overhearing him having an incriminating conversation on the phone.

Suki and Eve were soon plotting their escape, which involved getting all the details of Nish's dodgy deal and reporting him to the police.

After saying a subtle goodbye to son Vinny, Suki stuck to her side of the bargain and reported Nish to the police. However, she was horrified when Nish unexpectedly returned home, having been tipped off, and blamed Vinny for what's happened.

With Vinny now at the receiving end of Nish's temper, Suki was forced to admit that she was the one who called the police.

She used the opportunity to finally stand up to her controlling husband, stating that she didn't love him and never had.

As always, Nish had other ideas and made it clear to Suki that he wasn't planning to let her go anywhere. He then diverted his attention to Vinny, who was at The Vic, and vowed to get the family and his marriage back on track.

The closing moments of the episode later saw Vinny arrive home to find Suki unconscious at the bottom of the stairs, with Nish looking down at her.

Tonight's scenes explored the repercussions of this as Suki was rushed to hospital, and a devastated Eve learned what happened.

While Eve feared that Nish must have been responsible, Suki wasn't convinced.

When Eve questioned her on what happened, Suki said: "I don't know. I came-to at the bottom of the stairs and Nish was there."

Although Eve was left convinced that Nish must have been behind this, Suki remained adamant he didn't know about their relationship, or secret plans to leave.

"He wouldn't," she said. "He doesn't know anything, I'd know by now."

But while Nish might look like the guilty suspect right now, next week's spoilers do appear to rule him out.

Monday's episode will see Vinny ultimately become convinced that it was an attempt on his mum's life, and Eve's own fears for Suki only fuel his theory.

Nish later tells Suki that he's worried that she did this to herself on purpose, seemingly ruling him out for the timebeing.

Of course, there is also a chance that Nish is up to his usual manipulative tricks and is trying to ensure the finger is never pointed at him.

Either way, he is rattled when DS Miles and Callum arrive to speak to Suki and question whether Nish has ever been violent.

Nish is later taken in for questioning, where the police present some evidence that supports their theory and arrest him. But is Nish really responsible, or is it someone else? Or was it simply a terrible accident?

Navin Chowdhry, who plays Nish, is keeping his cards close to his chest.

"I think we've seen that Nish is capable of anything," he said. "This is a man who went to jail for twenty years and effectively lost the best years of his family life.

"He wasn't there for his children just because he believed, although he had no evidence and he didn't catch Suki in bed with another man, but he believed that she was having an affair and he burnt the house down which killed a man and resulted in him being jailed for twenty years. So, he's capable, I think, of doing anything."

"When Nish gets arrested I think he's shocked," Navin added. "Regardless of how innocent or guilty he might be, he does things in a particular way where there's no reason to doubt him and so for the police to get any kind of hint that he might be at fault here or that he might be guilty is horrific for him.

"He's had a couple of scares earlier when some jobs have gone wrong and the police have been called. He knows if he does any sort of reoffending, that's it, it's game over. He's just got his life back and in his head everything is going exactly as he wants; the business is back on track, his wife is under his thumb and the kids will do exactly what he says.

"He cannot have that go wrong so I think it is a genuine fear that the police have caught wind of what he may or may not have done."

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
