'It's Easy to See' Why Bill Belichick 'Could Become Infatuated' with New Girlfriend Jordon Hudson, Source Says (Exclusive)

Bill Belichick, 72, has been dating Jordon Hudson, 24, for more than a year, PEOPLE recently confirmed

The news about former NFL coach Bill Belichick’s recent relationship with a former college cheerleader almost 50 years younger than him has shocked some of those around him, though some don’t necessarily see the couple becoming a "long-term thing."

In June, PEOPLE confirmed that Belichick, 72, has been dating Jordon Hudson, 24, for more than a year after the pair were spotted together on a number of occasions, sparking rumors of their romance. This comes after the former New England Patriots coach and his longtime girlfriend, Linda Holliday, called it quits after 16 years together last September.

A pair of sources opened up to PEOPLE this week about Belichick’s new relationship with Hudson, a former college cheerleader at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts, with one source saying that even though Belichick can be flirty, his relationship with Hudson was shocking to learn about. Though, the source says they will not judge.

“If I had the options with attractive young women that Bill has, who knows what would happen,” the source says. “All I can say is we like Linda and thought they were a great couple,” the source continues. “They were good together.”

The insider also says, “It was surprising to us and to others when they actually spit up. But there was something else on the horizon for him,” adding that ”when you are as well known as Bill and constantly exposed to temptations, then the door is open for problems.”

Another source tells PEOPLE, “Jordon is bright and ambitious and pretty well organized,” explaining, “It’s easy to see that Bill could become infatuated with her. She is young and attractive and interesting. I don’t know what she wants from him but they seem to be enjoying each other and like doing many of the same things.”

That said, the source “doesn’t see it as a serious, long-term thing.”

As PEOPLE reported in September 2023, Belichick's new relationship comes after he and Holliday, 60, split after their "relationship ran its course," a source said at the time.

Although the two had been dating since 2007, the source explained that the couple had "been pretty separate for a while," adding that the problem in their relationship ultimately leading to their split was "not new."

“Bill is all about football and very busy now. He doesn’t want a lot of public attention on this," the insider told PEOPLE, adding that Belichick “[had] a lot on his plate, a good family, and he meets people all of the time."

Belichick and the Patriots, meanwhile, “mutually agreed to part ways” in January, ending the longtime coach’s 24-year tenure with the team. He led the Patriots to six Super Bowls, all with Tom Brady as his quarterback.
