Edwina Currie gets emergency hip operation after freak dog attack

The star was on a dog walk when a rogue mutt came at them.

Edwina Currie was rushed to hospital for an emergency hip operation following a freak altercation with a runaway dog.

The 76-year-old former Tory MP and health minister went flying onto her hip while walking her German shepherd in Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire, when an unleashed dog came at them.

Completely knocked off her feet, Currie tried to walk off the injury before eventually being taken to Macclesfield hospital 12 days later.

It was there she was told she would need emergency surgery on her hip, which according to the I'm A Celebrity star was left "totally mashed".

Speaking to The Sun, Currie said: "[The dog's] owner just grabbed it and went off. He never asked how I was. I was on the floor in absolute agony, but he showed no remorse.

“It was the most terrifying experience of my life. I was numb with pain."

She's now considering legal proceedings to cover the £5,000 in costs as she recovers from the operation.

Speaking of the dog, Currie said the animal in question was known in the area to be troublesome, and now needs to be muzzled in public after she filed a police report.

“It’s a nightmare. It’s caused other problems in the area. [The dog] is owned by a couple and has pulled its female before and she was left with a banged head," Currie added.

“I contacted Derbyshire police and now it has to be on a lead with a muzzle when outside.
