Elizabeth Debicki, Natasha Lyonne, Billie Eilish Among WWD Style Award Winners

Sunday night marked several WWD firsts — including its first-ever red carpet activation, featuring in-depth commentary on all the night’s fashions from host Jeannie Mai, as well as West Coast executive editor Booth Moore and style director Alex Badia. Along with that, WWD chose its first Style Awards from the Golden Globes — choosing the standout looks of the night across Women’s and Men’s Wear; Jewelry; Shoes; Best Newcomer; Icon; Makeup, and Best Dressed.

BEST NEWCOMER

Lily Gladstone in a custom Valentino white column gown and black coat with Buglari diamond necklace and Antelope Women Design earrings by Black Feet designer Lenise Omeasoo.  Gladstone has been mixing Indigenous designers with European ones and using her platform to promote inclusion.

BEST BEAUTY

Elizabeth Debicki’s no-makeup makeup and flowing hair was the perfect match for her golden metal mesh Dior dress.

BEST MENSWEAR

Colman Domingo in custom Louis Vuitton by Pharrell Williams. The ultrafitted military jacket, flared pant and brooches felt very new and very rock n’ roll.

BEST JEWELRY

Ariana Greenblatt took a fresh approach to red carpet dressing, choosing a St. Laurent tuxedo and loads of diamonds, the trend of the night. She told Chopard, “I want a diamond ring for every finger.”

BEST SHOES

Natasha Lyonne’s Schiaparelli boots. She praised designer Daniel Roseberry, and the house’s roots in Surrealism, adding of the Golden Globes red carpet, “What could be more surreal than this?”

MOST DARING

Billie Eilish in Willy Chavarria. She took the designer’s oversized slouch and made it her own, and the hair and makeup added a futuristic swagger.

BEST DRESSED

Dior won the night and Natalie Portman’s hand-embroidered Dior haute couture gown was a garden of delights. A close second goes to Rosamund Pike in a fall 2019 black lace Dior tea-length gown with a Philip Treacy mask to disguise a skiing injury to her chin.

ICON AWARD

Meryl Streep in custom Valentino sequin skirt suit and a white bow blouse channeling her character in “The Devil Wears Prada.” “Everybody wants to be us.”
