Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi Celebrate 19th Anniversary of Dating with Fun Advice Video for Fans
The couple poked fun at each other as they shared their top tips for a healthy relationship
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are sharing some words of wisdom.
To mark their 19th anniversary of dating, the former talk show host, 65, and the Arrested Development star, 50, sat down to answer fans' questions in a video shared on Instagram on Friday. They tackled a wide range of topics from relationship advice to peanut butter preferences — and lots of hilarity ensued.
"19 years ago today Portia and I started dating, and what better way to celebrate than by answering some of your advice questions. Happy anniversary, Portia," DeGeneres wrote in the post's caption.
The pair first answered a query about how to get more sleep with a newborn baby.
"Condoms," DeGeneres matter-of factly replied. "Right? No more newborns with the condoms."
"Can you drug your baby?" de Rossi joked. "I don't know. I don't have babies."
DeGeneres then feigned shock, saying, "You don't? Thought you did," leading de Rossi to break out laughing and affectionately put her head on the comedian's shoulder.
The women were also asked to share their No. 1 tip for a healthy relationship. DeGeneres let de Rossi go first. "Oh, what would you say, love? We have a healthy relationship," she prompted her.
The actress' advice was to never lie "about anything."
"Ever. Don't ever lie," agreed DeGeneres.
"Ever," continued de Rossi. "Like, gee, does this sweater look good on me? Not really. You know, maybe go for something else right?"
At that moment, DeGeneres leaned in and took a closer look at her wife's outfit. "Yeah, I would have gone for something else," she told her. "You should have—"

De Rossi interjected, "I was about to actually talk to you about the cream," referring to DeGeneres' monochromatic sweater and pants look.
After the two broke out laughing again, de Rossi noted that "even tiny little white lies" should be avoided in a relationship.

DeGeneres admitted that she's always "blatantly honest" with de Rossi and others, to which her wife replied, "She will say what she feels. And I always know where I stand."
The former Ellen host said it's also important to compliment your partner often. "You shouldn't take someone for granted. I tell [de Rossi] she's pretty all the time. I mean, she's not but…" she explained with a giggle.
After de Rossi pointed out that DeGeneres compliments her meals, the comedian playfully poked fun at her partner's culinary skills. "Three of them, yes," she deadpanned.
Another fan wanted to know whether the women are team smooth peanut butter or team crunchy. DeGeneres said she doesn't have a particular preference. "I'm bi when it comes to peanut butter," she quipped as the video ended.

DeGeneres and de Rossi, who married in 2008, celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary in August. The talk show veteran posted a touching Instagram tribute to her longtime love at the time. "To my wife of 15 years," she wrote. "I fall more in love with you every day. My life is blessed because you’re in it. Happy anniversary."
Earlier this year, de Rossi surprised DeGeneres with a vow renewal, officiated by close friend Kris Jenner. Their friends and family gathered on Jan. 31 for what they thought was a party for de Rossi's birthday, but instead the Ally McBeal star walked in re-wearing her wedding dress.
"You don't have to say anything at all but when I was thinking about what would make my birthday really special, apart from being with family and friends, it was reminding you that you're the most important thing in the world to me," she told DeGeneres in an emotional speech at the event.
