Elton John and Christie's Hosting 'Landmark' Auction to Sell the Contents of His Former Atlanta Home

John sold his 13,332-square-foot Atlanta condo for $7,225,000 last year

Elton John is auctioning items from his home in Atlanta.

Named "The Collection of Sir Elton John: Goodbye Peachtree Road," the contents of the music legend’s former penthouse in Atlanta will be up for auction at Christie’s starting on Feb. 21.

John, 76, who sold his 13,332 square-foot Atlanta condo for $7,225,000 last year, is auctioning a large number of items that include a custom Damien Hirst, an 18th-century costume designed by Sandy Powell and a pair of silver leather boots with red leather letters E and J on the sides.

Per a press release from Christie’s, John’s property will be presented “in a series of landmark sales at Christie’s Rockefeller Center.”

The series will be both live and online and comprise eight sales total. Each sale will focus on a unique aspect of John's life and collection.

“It is a distinct privilege for Christie's to partner with Sir Elton John and his husband David Furnish in curating the forthcoming auction: ‘The Collection of Sir Elton John: Goodbye Peachtree Road,’ ” Tash Perrin, Deputy Chairman, Christie’s Americas, said in the release.

According to the New York Times, the auctioning is set to bring in a whopping $10 million with John’s Yamaha conservatory grand piano being estimated to cost a maximum of $50,000.

Meanwhile, according to the press release, the auction house is seeking $300,000 for Julian Schnabel’s portrait of John dressed in a gown and ruffled collar, while an Irving Penn portrait of a black and white Vogue cover of model Jean Patchett in New York, 1950 is estimated to sell between $100,000-150,000.

“As time went on, the walls got more full,” John’s husband and manager, David Furnish, told the New York Times as he spoke of the belongings in their home. “Elton never put things in drawers, he bought them to live with his art.”

According to Christie’s, a public exhibition in their galleries will take place Feb. 9-21, while a pop-up gift shop of John’s eyewear, apparel, vinyl and accessories will also be open at the same time.
