Imagine being paid to kick butt and look good doing it. Well, that’s British actress Emily Blunt in the upcoming action comedy film The Fall Guy. The 41-year-old has a scene where she takes down a man in an alien costume. Don’t ask us why, we aren’t giving any spoilers.

And, she admitted to Yahoo Southeast Asia , in an interview at the Universal Backlot in Los Angeles earlier this month, that she performed the fight scene herself.

“I do love a fight scene. I really do. Especially with an alien in a padded suit,” she deadpanned while co-star Ryan Gosling pointed out that she’s “really good at it”.

She added, “You know, I felt like I had a bit of carte blanche to really go for it. I love it. I love those scenes. I’m not very good with heights. Fight scenes, I am up for it. I am a little nervous doing certain stunts.”

When asked about the stunt that she’s most proud of, Blunt shared that it science fiction action film Edge of Tomorrow.

The actress recalled filming on the beach “in a big suit” and time was of the essence as they were “losing the light”. There were two banks, with a pit in the middle, and she was required to jump across it while doing an aerial spin before landing on her shoulders and stabbing in a close-up shot.

“I could never do it in rehearsal. I got injured doing it in rehearsal so I was very scared of it… I did it once only and they managed to get it. Thank god, because that was it. It was the only time I actually managed to do it.”

As The Fall Guy is a love letter to the stunt community, there are lots of incredible stunts in the film. One of them involved Ryan Gosling’s character (Colt Seavers) falling off a helicopter from a tall height.

It wasn’t performed by him, though. “I left that to the professionals,” he quipped.

The stuntman who performed it was Troy Brown, whom Gosling described as “one of the best high-fall artists there is”.

The 43-year-old added, “His father was actually like one of the greatest high-fall artists ever. So, it was a really emotional day for them because he fell onto the same bag that his father had fallen on two years ago, and broke the record.

“Then he signed it next to his dad, called his mum, and it was really beautiful.”

Gosling may not have jumped out of the helicopter himself, but he had a fight scene with co-stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Hannah Waddingham in the helicopter.

It was also when British actress Waddingham got some scars, as she previously revealed to talk show host Stephen Colbert.

The 49-year-old said, “It was like three days - myself, Ryan and Aaron in that helicopter. I mean, I joke about it now, but those are hard metal environments. And you're being jostled around all over the place.

“And bear in mind, we take off our seatbelts, so you're holding yourself in there. And it was great fun, but it was not easy at all.”

Her co-star Winston Duke pointed out that Waddingham’s screams in the film were real.

“They were real, you’re welcome,” she quipped. “And my stunt double Chanique, she was like, I’m ready to step in at any time. I was like, this is fine, I really want to do it myself.”

Inspired by the hit 1980s TV series, The Fall Guy stars Gosling as Colt Seavers, a battle-scarred stuntman who left the business to focus on both his physical and mental health, but is drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie - directed by his ex, Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt) - goes missing.

Aside from Duke, Waddingham, and Taylor-Johnson, the movie also stars Stephanie Hsu.

The Fall Guy will be released in local cinemas on 25 April.
