Emmerdale to air violent scene in shock Mary and Faye story

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's Mary Goskirk is knocked unconscious next week as newcomer Faye shows what she's truly capable of.

Mary is horrified as it's confirmed that Faye has been conning her from the day that they first met, sparking a dangerous showdown.

Upcoming scenes see Faye announce that she needs to head back to Ecuador to help run a women's refuge.

When Faye claims there has been a fire at the refuge, caring Mary proposes a fundraiser.

Next week, Mary promises to join Faye when she makes the trip abroad. The couple seem more committed than ever, but Suzy Merton spots some tell-tale signs that everything isn't as it seems.

Suzy is wary when she notices that Faye seems cagey on the topic of money for the fundraiser.

When Suzy shares her suspicions, Mary is offended on Faye's behalf. Mary then doubles down on her commitment to Faye by sending through a large donation.

The following day, Suzy shares more evidence with Mary that suggests Faye is a liar.

Mary shuts this theory down for a second time, but reluctantly starts testing the waters with Faye to see how she responds.

Suzy's suspicions appear to be well-founded when Faye continues to act coyly over finances.

The penny drops for Mary that Faye is a con artist. With no point in pretending any further, Faye coldly reveals her true nature.

A scuffle follows over an envelope of money, with alarming consequences as Faye makes her escape – and Mary is left bleeding and concussed.

Emmerdale's executive producer Jane Hudson first teased this storyline last week, telling Digital Spy and other media: "We've got a lovely love story playing on screen with Mary. We see Mary falling in love with Faye and it's her first relationship since coming out.

"She's been really vulnerable and she's really put herself out there and unfortunately it's not going to be a happy ending. Mary is going to have her heart broken.

"I think what's really relevant for this story is how easy it is to be scammed, how easy it is to be taken in, how easy it is for love to stop you thinking logically.

"I think it doesn't matter what age you are, we're all vulnerable to be tricked and to be scammed and to be catfished."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
