Emmerdale airs dramatic aftermath of Caleb attack

Emmerdale has aired the dramatic aftermath of Caleb Miligan's attack.

A brand new mystery storyline has kicked off in the Dales, after Caleb was followed through the woods and then shoved into a ravine to die. But Caleb survived — and now the question is who tried to murder him?

Several of the potential suspects were milling around village, acting shady, at the start of Friday's (June 16) episode — Will was talking a mile a minute, Leyla could barely focus on polite banter and Mack was popping pain pills.

Elsewhere, Charity was nursing a hangover after being helped home late at night by Chas as Cain menacingly trekked back to the barn.

The episode then cut to a bloodied and nearly-dead Caleb draped over a log in the forest, crying for out for someone to help him.

Back in the village, Cain caught up with Chas and they shared a moment to remember what would have been their mum Faith's birthday.

Charity would get a tongue-lashing from Chas over having now slept with both of Chas's brothers over the years. Charity pointed out that although they're Chas's brothers by blood, she personally isn't related to Cain or Caleb.

"Nothing personal," Charity quipped.

Over at Home Farm, Kim suspected that Will had been off "avenging" her name. Will denied he'd done anything, but promised he'd "happily" break Caleb's neck if asked.

"He's really not worth the trouble, so just keep out of temptation's way," Kim encouraged.

Kim and Gabby were shocked when Willy spontaneously announced he'd booked a holiday in the Maldives. Gabby and Kim both remained skeptical of Will's actions.

In the forest, a dramatic scene played out as Caleb briefly awoke from his stupor to see Cain watching him fron the top of the hill. Perhaps in spite of himself, Cain called for an ambulance to rescue his brother.

Sometime later in the village, Chas interrogated Cain on why he'd let Caleb go off alone into the forest in the first place. When Kim found out from David about the "accident", she shared a knowing glance with Will.

At the hospital, the detective told Cain and Chas that Caleb's condition remained critical but he was lucky he'd been found by his brother.

"We believe he may have been pushed," the detective revealed.

Cain denied he'd been the one who'd pushed Caleb, though the detective insisted his team would need to take a formal statement soon. Chas continued to doubt her brother as he walked away rather than answer her questions.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
