Emmerdale has aired a temporary exit for Lydia Dingle.

Earlier this week, Lydia finally learned the truth about her friend Kim Tate's horse accidentally killing Craig. While Kim tried to comfort her, Lydia threw her friend out of the house for lying all this time.

Sam was stunned as Lydia shared the true story in Friday's (December 8) episode, as Kim had let him initially take the blame from the police.

"All everyone seems to do to me these days is lie. I've got no idea who I can trust anymore, Sam," Lydia insisted.

Lydia admitted that learning the truth about Kim's involvement in Craig's death actually made things worse, since Kim had been the one person she'd counted on recently.

As Sam suggested they use the opportunity to "start making things right" between them, Lydia reminded him he'd still beat up Craig before his death. However, Lydia did credit Sam for admitting what he'd done.

Cain happened to overhear the couple's conversation, though he feigned surprise as Sam revealed Kim's secrets. Viewers know that Cain was also at the scene and convinced Kim not to call 999.

The awkward atmosphere continued as Kim showed up, leading to Sam lashing out for her lies. Cain stepped in to stop Kim from coming clean about his own involvement before she made her exit.

Later, Lydia confided in Sam that she was still "struggling" and felt she needed a change of scenery to clear her head.

"I'm going to go and stay with me mum for a while," she explained.

Lydia assured Sam that she wasn't leaving him – and still loved him very much. As Lydia went to pack her things, Sam rallied Samson to support Lydia in her decision to temporarily leave.

"You know, I couldn't have got this far without the both of you," she told her husband and stepson.

"I think the absolute world of you. I need you to remember that."

Lydia took one final look at Wishing Well Cottage, sighed and then went off to meet Sam and Samson outside with her bags.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
