Emmerdale confirms affair story for Liam and Wendy

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale kicks off a surprising affair storyline for Liam Cavanagh and Wendy Posner next week.

The pair's friendship turns into more after Wendy discovers a secret that Liam has been hiding.

As we revealed recently, Wendy is about to find out that Liam is a published murder mystery author who conceals his identity by using a pseudonym.

Wendy becomes intrigued to learn more and agrees to join Liam at a murder mystery convention.

The event ends up moving online, but Wendy still goes to great lengths to embrace Liam's hobby – including kindly preparing a celebration to mark his nomination for a writing award.

The friends enjoy an evening drinking champagne and listening to music while wearing fancy dress.

When Liam's alter ego Anna Le Monde is declared the winner of the Murder Most Murky New Crime Writer of the Year award, the pair get carried away and give into temptation.

Later in the week, Wendy feels guilty as the reality hits that she has cheated on her partner Bob Hope.

Despite this, Liam and Wendy are unable to fight their desires when they next see each other at the doctors surgery.

Although unaware of what's happening, Bernice Blackstock advises Bob that he needs to do a better job showing Wendy that he cares about their relationship, but is it too late?

Emmerdale's executive producer Jane Hudson previously teased this storyline last month.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media in April, Hudson commented: "We've got a more light-hearted story with Liam – our Dr Cavanagh, or should we be saying Dr Love?

"There's going to be something that I think will take you all by surprise and it starts off as quite a fun story but at the heart of it there is something serious, which will come out further down the line.

"But it's a great story. We'll see Liam and another character in a way we've perhaps not seen them before, so I can't wait for you to watch that."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
