In new follow-on scenes, Chloe brings home her newborn baby Reuben, though finds life challenging.

As she struggles with the baby, mum Kerry calls on Facetime and manages to talk her round. Amy is then left relieved that their mum has managed to get through to Chloe.

The return for Kerry comes as actress Laura Norton is herself on maternity leave in real life, having welcomed a baby girl with partner and co-star Mark Jordon in October.

"This little superstar joined us," she said at the time. "She's dead clever and a tiny little bundle of joy and beauty. Ronnie Jordon."

In February, the couple opened up about their children's Usher syndrome diagnosis, a genetic condition that affects hearing and night vision with severe vision loss later in life, as well as balance issues.

"We've agonised about doing this before we've even told our children about their condition," Mark told Hello!. "But we would never forgive ourselves if we did nothing when we could be making changes that would help them and other children."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
