Emmerdale fans spot potential new romance in New Year's episode

Emmerdale fans may have spotted the beginnings of a possible new romance in the soap's New Year's Day episode, as two characters appeared to share a charged moment.
The dramatic episode featured a huge accident and a tragic death in a storyline which drew in many of the village's residents, while Mary Goskirk discussed her own family troubles with Suzy Merton.
As the new year approached, Suzy popped in for a chat with Mary, who reflected on all the difficulties that 2023 had brought her.

"If you ever need to offload, you know where I am," a sympathetic Suzy told Mary before they made a plan to meet next week to share "a bucket of wine".
The pair then exchanged a long look and Suzy made her excuses to leave – but not before telling Mary that she hoped 2024 would "be a good one for both of us".
Their interaction didn't go unnoticed by viewers, with many sharing their theories that Mary and Suzy could have romantic potential.
One viewer wrote on X (Twitter), "I'm here for Mary and Suzy. Great chemistry between them", while another commented, "Wow there definitely was unexpected tension between Suzy & Mary in tonights #Emmerdale! Something more than friends could develop!? Mary kissing Vanessa wasn't ideal & not sure if Suzy is going to be right for Mary (she's a brill friend). Intrigued what's to follow!"

Another viewer noted that they had seen "a spark" between the two characters, adding, "It will be interesting to see if anything happens? A young lesbian & older lesbian relationship can be interesting to see. I don't think I ever seen that on television."
One fan shared their excitement about the potential romance, writing, "I've been thinking there's a spark between the two for ages!! It would definitely bring some fresh viewing to our TVs if #Emmerdale explore that narrative!"
Another fan pointed out that this development could make sense, as they commented, "It's been hinted past few months that both Mary and Suzy get an unexpected new romance that causes a riff. So that would definitely explain it."

Actress Louise Jameson, who plays Mary, recently teased a development in her character's love life in the new year, adding: "That's as much as I'm allowed to say."
She did, however, add that Mary is unlikely to start a relationship with Kim Tate, saying: "Kim's so heterosexual. Although I think Mary would be happy to form a relationship with Kim."
Mary was previously in a relationship with con artist Faye Helders, while Suzy enjoyed a romance with Vanessa Woodfield in 2022.
