Parr also shared a picture of himself before the physical transformation took place.
In the caption of the post, Parr revealed that the physical change was necessary for his health: "36 today. And what a year it was. From hurting back back in November the day before I was supposed to move house and 2 days before I was set to fly to Morocco for a job.
"You can see in the 2nd pic that I was in pretty bad shape. My hips were all off line. Sciatic nerve was trapped and I damaged my C2&C3. I thought it was gonna hurt forever."
He added: "I quit the gym and now have just been working out with dumbbells at home and I feel better and stronger than ever. Good diet. Fasting.
"Cold showers and just everything in moderation. Thank you to everyone who has helped me this year. I love my life and I love everyone in it."
Parr originally joined Emmerdale in 2013 and quickly established himself as one of the soap's bad boys after committing a series of crimes and enjoying numerous affairs with women.
He later left the soap after declining to renew his contract as he wanted to have a go at making it in the US. His character departed the show after suffering an acid attack and moved to Liverpool to try and start a new life.
Since leaving Emmerdale, Parr appeared in two episodes of Sky's action show Bulletproof and historical drama Colosseum.
He also starred in indie film The Spyce of Life alongside Steven Bauer.
