Emmerdale star Liam Fox sparks Dan Spencer exit rumours

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Liam Fox has sparked rumours that he could be exiting the soap this year.

The actor, who has played Dan Spencer on the ITV soap since 2011, has been announced for a pantomime version of Aladdin, running between December 2 and January 14 at St Helens' Theatre Royal.

Normally, Coronation Street and Emmerdale cast members aren't allowed to do a Christmas panto while under contract, which could imply that he's stepping away from the soap.

That ties in with his current storyline, which sees Dan in big trouble with the police after he punched new character Lloyd who had been stalking his daughter Amelia, but is now fighting for his life in hospital.

Dan was charged with GBH this week, and is worried that he'll be sent to prison and therefore won't be there for his family, especially if Lloyd doesn't pull through.

Speaking about his character's situation, Fox said: "For somebody like Dan, I think it wouldn't do him any favours at all. I think he'd come out worse than he went in because he's not a villain... If Dan gets locked up it could change everything for his daughter Amelia."

Regardless of whether this is his exit storyline or not, the actor has admitted to relishing the chance to get some more dramatic material to perform.

"I preferred having comedy originally, but it's good," he explained. "I miss Dan's fun side but when we're doing stuff that's this good, it's brilliant. The directors we've had have been fab as well. They've made us work for it. My brain's been frazzled. In a good way!"

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
