Emmerdale star Lisa Riley explains why show bosses made Amelia change

Emmerdale star Lisa Riley has revealed why show bosses have made one particular change to Amelia Spencer's character.

As fans will know, Amelia has started working alongside Mandy Dingle in the salon, but this wasn't always the plan for her.

It came about when the actresses who play Mandy and Amelia – Lisa Riley and Daisy Campbell, respectively – worked together on a project outside the soap and got on really well.

"We did the show Britain Get Singing for ITV and me and Daisy got on like a house on fire," Riley told Inside Soap. "The producers said they saw that camaraderie, which is why they put Amelia in the salon.

"She has her PampaManda apron, and she's camp and frothy. But we're also playing the serious storyline of her being a young mum and struggling with not having a teenage social life.

"Long may it last because working with Daisy is a total joy," she continued. "She's so professional – and she lets me put comedy in, which is really good.

Elsewhere, Amelia struggled with a health scare after recently discovering a lump in her breast. The wait for answers on whether the lump is cancerous has her worrying about the future for her daughter Esther.

Mandy has also had a tough time after her potential reunion with Paddy Dingle aired a setback.

The former couple have had a few one-off nights together following Paddy's split from his wife Chas Dingle, all while Paddy is struggling with his mental health.

Last week, Mandy showed how supportive she was and said she would do all she could to help, before he kissed her.

"You've been so kind to me," Paddy said. "I repay you by throwing myself at you. I'm sorry. Forgive me, let's pretend it never happened."

An embarrassed Paddy rushed out before Mandy could even respond, leaving her confused about her own feelings.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
