Emmerdale star Zoe Henry addresses possible prison sentence for Rhona

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Zoe Henry has discussed the possibility of her character Rhona Goskirk being sent to prison.

Rhona's life reaches a crossroads next week as she stands trial for kidnapping baby Ivy.

The village vet has been warned that her minimum sentence is likely to be two years in prison if the jury finds her guilty.

Ivy is Rhona's biological daughter as her ex-husband Gus Malcolms fraudulently used one of their frozen embryos to start a family with his wife Lucy, who has since died. Rhona has no legal rights to Ivy, which puts her in a difficult position throughout the court case.

Speaking about how Rhona would deal with being sent to jail, Zoe admitted: "She wouldn't cope with it very well – who would? I think it's the panic of feeling she's losing her children.

"Initially when Rhona took Ivy, it was about the panic of losing her. Now it's about the panic of losing all three children – Ivy, Leo and April.

"There's panic about Rhona's marriage to Marlon because she's put him through a lot and he's not been a well man himself.

"She's also just got her relationship with her mother back on track. So it's not a great prospect going to prison, it's a very daunting one."

Discussing how it was to film the court scenes on location, Zoe continued: "It was good – it's always nice to be filming somewhere else, as it just adds a new dimension to it. It just felt a bit like we were off doing a different job.

"The amazing cast who came into play the barristers, the judge and the clerks of court were just amazing. We had so much fun. It won't be fun to watch, I imagine, but we had a lot of fun filming it.

"The director John Anderson was also brilliant. It was a really wonderful week and a half."

Viewers can expect relations between Rhona and Gus to hit a new low as Gus issues some harsh words while giving evidence against his ex-wife in court.

Zoe confirmed: "Gus is vile to Rhona. They bump into each other in the corridor. Of course Rhona can't resist approaching him and saying: 'Look, whatever's happened, let's just do what we can for Ivy'. But he just annihilates her.

"I understand it, I think – as Zoe, but not as Rhona. But at this point it feels like there's absolutely no reconciling things between them."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
