Emmerdale's Belle and Tom King to clash in fire story

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's Belle King tries to stand up to her abusive husband Tom in Thursday's episode (June 13) after he locks her in their home.

Belle is horrified as she gets trapped inside the cottage amid a dangerous incident in the kitchen.

The worrying drama unfolds as evil Tom heads out for a work-related appointment and decides to lock Belle in, not wanting her to leave the house while he's gone.

Belle leaves some food to cook on the hob and goes for a nap with her pet dog Piper.

As Belle sleeps, a tea towel starts to singe in the kitchen and starts a fire.

Although Belle manages to put it out, she's alarmed to realise that she's locked inside the house and things could have been a lot worse.

Belle demands answers from Tom as soon as he returns home. Will she believe him when he denies any responsibility?

Eden Taylor-Draper, who plays Belle, explained: "I think she doubts herself. It happens because she says she is going to Ethan's funeral and he suggests she maybe shouldn't.

"Unbeknownst to her, he swipes her keys. Later she realises she is locked in.

"She has cooked some food and then gone for a nap, but accidentally a tea towel was left on the hob so is awoken by smoke.

"Belle manages to put it out, but then realises she had been locked in. Tom returns and they have a row over whether she was locked in."

Asked whether Belle is any closer to confiding in her loved ones about Tom's abuse, Eden replied: "I don't think she's quite there yet. I think he's manipulating the situations cleverly, so she is full of self-doubt and not confident there is anything actually wrong that he is doing to her.

"He's very clever at making her think she's the one in the wrong. Coercive control manipulates the victim's brain into thinking they are only being treated this way because they are the ones in the wrong."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
