Emmerdale's Dominic Brunt on Paddy's long-term future after tragic story

Emmerdale star Dominic Brunt has opened up about Paddy's long-term future after his current devastating story.
In upcoming episodes, Paddy battles with suicidal thoughts following the breakdown of his marriage to Chas Dingle after her affair with the now deceased Al Chapman.
Speaking of Paddy's future with TV Times, Brunt said that the soap will explore his recovery in detail: "We will follow him on his journey to recovery – we don't just go: 'He's fine now.'

"Like anybody who goes through the trauma he's gone through, he now has to live with the knowledge that he has suicidal thoughts and is capable of that," Brunt explained. "Hopefully he'll get the tools to figure out how to take himself out of that position."
When asked what his hopes are for Paddy's future, Brunt said that he wants Paddy to open up more and build some sort of a relationship with his estranged wife Chas.
"I hope he gets better, I hope he talks more, I hope he brings his friends into what happened, and I hope he and Chas can make amends, whether they're together or not. I hope he tells her that it wasn't all her fault, because it's important that she knows that. And I hope he listens to the fact that so many people say: 'I love you.'"

For the heartbreaking episodes, Emmerdale enlisted the help of suicide prevention groups Samaritans and Andy's Man Club, and Brunt said he hopes that the episode "shines a light on the subject of depression".
"I hope it makes people aware of what other people are going through. If it helps just one person, it will be amazing."
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
