Enthusiast Gets Close to a Whale for the First Time

A volunteer with a whale conservation charity was able to get close to a humpback whale after spotting two of them swimming off the Moray Coast on January 8 .

Steve Truluck, who regularly points local tour boats in the direction of visiting pods as part of his work for the WDC, had never actually been on a trip to see the whales up close in the bay.

He told Storyful over the phone that a local tour company had offered him the trip as a “thank you” for the assistance he had given them over the years.

In one of the videos he posted on social media, one of the two whales, who were know to be visiting the area at the time, can be seen swimming around and underneath the boat.

“That’s ten metres from the boat”, Truluck says when the whale surfaces. “Good grief”. Credit: Facebook/Steve Truluck via Storyful, Whale and Dolphin Conservation Charity
