Epson's WorkForce Pro WF-5111, WF-5621, and WF-6091 business inkjet printers are fast and durable

Epson’s WorkForce series of color inkjet printers are primarily designed for businesses, touting features like fast print speeds and reliability, workgroup connectivity, and easy mobile device printing. And today in Singapore, Epson has launched for the first time in Southeast Asia new models in the WorkForce Pro series, which are suitable for use in small offices or departments. They are the WF-5111, WF-5621, and WF-6091.

Now, before I run you through what to expect from each of them, know that one thing in common between these new models are their PrecisionCore printhead technology. I’ve talked about PrecisionCore on the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-R8591 and Epson L655 ink tank system printer before; in short, it’s the main reason why Epson’s recent business inkjet printers are able to claim laser-like duty cycles and speeds. Coupled with high cost savings and the color quality often associated with inkjets, Epson is trying to overturn the long held notion that only laser printers are suitable for business use.

WorkForce Pro WF-5111 & WF-5621

Thanks to PrecisionCore, the single-function WorkForce Pro WF-5111 and the multifunction WF-5621 can hit a print speed of 20ipm for both black and color, and a top resolution of 4,800 x 1,200 dpi. Other impressive numbers include a first-page-out time of less than 7 seconds, and a 45,000-page monthly duty cycle. Both printers also use high-capacity ink cartridges that can yield up to 4,000 pages in black or color. The use of Epson DuraBrite Ultra pigment inks also enables their printouts to be smudge, fade, water, bleedthrough, and higherlighter resistant. If you combine the front cassette and rear tray, the printers can hold up to 330 sheets of paper. You can bring that up to 580 by adding another 250-sheet cassette.

The key difference between the WF-5111 and WF-5621 is that the latter also packs scan, copy, and fax functions. While both are capable of a 11ipm auto duplex printing speed, only the WF-5621 has a 35-sheet duplex ADF unit that enables double-sided copying, scanning, and faxing. The WF-5621 also sports a 3.5-inch color LCD (versus the 2.2-inch mono LCD on the WF-5111), as well as a USB port for direct printing, scanning, and saving of faxes. In addition, security features like limiting access to functions, secured printing with PIN release, and LDAP address book are only found on the all-in-one model.

Both printers come with USB 2.0, wired Ethernet, and wireless networking connectivity options, including support for Wi-Fi Direct. There’s a variety of ways to use the WF-5111, including the free Epson iPrint app, which allows you to print over the Wi-Fi network. With the remote print driver, you can even print files over the Internet from a computer connected to the network. Other methods of printing include sending what you need to print to the printer’s own email address, or through services like Google Cloud Print. Printing on iOS devices is supported through Apple AirPrint. Versus the WF-5111, the WF-5621 has an additional scan-to-cloud function.

WorkForce Pro WF-6091

The WorkForce Pro WF-6091 is another single-function model, but it touts faster print speeds (24ipm for simplex, 16ipm for duplex) and a higher monthly duty cycle (75,000 pages) than the WF-5111 and WF-5621. First-page-out time is also faster at just 5 seconds. To minimize down time, its high-capacity ink cartridges can yield up to 10,000 pages in black or 7,000 pages in color.

Another key difference is that the WF-6091 uses the DuraBrite Pro ink set, which has a higher pigment concentration for better blacks and color prints. It also has a curl-inhibiting ingredient to reduce paper curl. Like DuraBrite Ultra, printouts are smudge, fade, water, bleedthrough, and higherlighter resistant.

Similar to the other WorkForce models, there are several ways to use the WF-6091, such as through the Epson iPrint app, using email print, or services and protocols like Google Cloud Print and Apple AirPrint. A 500-sheet paper cassette and 80-sheet rear tray come as standard, but you can increase the capacity considerably by adding another two optional 500-sheet cassettes.

The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-5111, WF-5621, and WF-6091 are now available at a price of S$249, S$399, and S$829 respectively.
