The direction of a manhunt for a criminal who absconded from a jail in May has been passed to the force responsible for policing his home city.

Daniel Gee was given an indefinite sentence for making threats to kill at Liverpool Crown Court in 2010.

The 44-year-old escaped from Kirklevington Grange Prison on Teesside on 27 May and Cleveland Police initially led the search.

Merseyside Police confirmed its officers would now be in charge of the investigation into his absconsion.

Gee was last seen boarding a train from Darlington to Liverpool the day after his escape.

Merseyside Police said he had links to Carlisle, St Helens and Liverpool and the search for him was continuing.

A force representative said Gee, who was about 6ft (1.83m) tall, bald and heavily built, should not be approached and anyone who saw him should contact police.
