European Athletics Championship: Daryll Neita wins silver in 200m as Megan Keith scoops 10,000m bronze
Daryll Neita was denied gold in a photo finish in the women's 200 metre final at the European Athletics Championships in Rome.
Neita clocked 22.50 seconds to lose out by one hundredth of a second to Switzerland's Mujinga Kambundji (22.49secs), who defended the title she won in Munich two years ago, while France's Helene Parisot (22.63) took bronze.
Kambundji ran an impressive bend to lead coming into the straight, but Neita, based in Italy and targeting a medal at the Paris Olympics later this summer for Team GB, clawed it back in a thrilling finish before being pipped on the finish line.
Britain's Megan Keith won bronze in the women's 10,000m, but Eilish McColgan pulled out of the race with 4,000m still to go and fellow Briton before Jessica Warner-Judd also later withdrew.
Keith hit the front with six laps remaining and led with two laps to go, but could not live with the pace of Italy's double gold-medal winner Nadia Battocletti - who won the 5000m earlier this week - and the Netherlands' Diane Van Es.
Norway's reigning Olympic and three-time world champion Karsten Warholm won his third-successive European 400m hurdles title in a championship record 46.98 ahead of home favourite Alessandro Sibilio.
Femke Bol of The Netherlands strolled to victory in the women's 400m hurdles to retain her European crown, also setting a new championship record of 52.50, while Britain's Lina Nielsen finished seventh in 55.65.
In the men's triple jump, Jonathan Edwards' 26-year-old European record of 17.99m was broken twice as Spain's Jordan Diaz Fortun made the third best jump of all time with 18.18m to take gold, with Portugal's Pedro Pichardo (18.04m) winning silver.
Earlier on Tuesday, defending champion Keely Hodgkinson cruised through the fastest-ever women's 800m semi-final in European Championships history to secure her spot in Wednesday evening's final.
The two-time world and Tokyo Olympic silver medallist clocked 1:58.07 to take her spot as the fastest qualifier.
The British quartet of Asha Philip, Amy Hunt, Dina Asher-Smith and Desiree Henry comfortably reached the women's 4x100m relay final with 42.25, the best time for a European team this year.
But the men's 4x100m quartet - CJ Ujah, Jona Efoloko, Richard Kilty and Romell Glave - finished last in their heat with 39.60 and will miss the final.
The men's 4x400m relay team - Lewis Davey, Michael Ohioze, Toby Harries and Charlie Carvell - will defend Britain's 2022 European gold in the final after winning their heat in 3:01.69.
