Ex-Bloomberg Media Chief Scott Havens Hired By New York Mets As Head Of Business Operations

M. Scott Havens, who has been CEO of Bloomberg Media for almost two years, has been hired by the New York Mets.

The exec will oversee business operations for the team, with a portfolio including pretty much everything but baseball. The position had been vacant since Sandy Alderson transitioned to a consulting role last year.

Havens will join the organization in January, reporting to owner Steve Cohen.

“Bringing someone on board of Scott’s caliber is an exciting development for the Mets organization,” Cohen said in a joint statement with his wife, Alex. “Scott has vast experience leading world-class media and digital technology-led companies such as Bloomberg Media and Time Inc. and he’ll provide a modern vision and strategic direction for our organization.”

Havens had been with Bloomberg since 2015 and was installed as Justin Smith’s successor as CEO after the exec left to co-create new media outlet Semafor.

“The opportunity to join the Mets organization is a lifelong dream fulfilled,” Havens said. “I’m thrilled to build upon the great work under way, accelerating the push to modernize our strategy across the organization, driving new digital and media innovation, and ultimately, to provide our fans with the best experience in sports.”

Prior to Bloomberg, Havens served in exec roles at Time Inc. and The Atlantic.

The Cohens bought the Mets in 2020 and has made a number of aggressive player and manager moves aimed at returning the franchise to glory. Last season, the team finished with a record of 75-87, good for fourth place in the National League East.
