Exclusive: Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd confirms Stephen Reid downfall

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has teased plans for Stephen Reid to get his comeuppance later this year.

The actor revealed that his own character David Platt will be involved in the dramatic episodes to come, as Stephen's evil nature is finally discovered.

Stephen has killed Leo Thompkins, Teddy Thompkins and Rufus Donahue over the past 12 months, but he has successfully covered up the truth so far.

Jack has now discussed the ongoing storyline during an exclusive Inside Soap magazine photoshoot to celebrate Coronation Street's nominations at the Inside Soap Awards 2023.

Digital Spy was granted exclusive access to the photoshoot and chatted to each of the cast involved.

Speaking to Digital Spy about what's next for the Stephen saga, Jack explained: "Things are getting on top of him and people are starting to find out.

"And I think I'm heavily involved in it, although I haven't read it yet! People have said I am. People have said I'm in it, so that's always nice.

"I'm interested to know how it ends. It'll be sad if Uncle Stephen does have to leave permanently, because it's always a shame when you lose a Platt – someone close to your family.

"Hopefully he just gets arrested or something, but I don't know, because he has done a lot of bad stuff and he's killed people!"

He continued: "I suppose one of the reasons why David hasn't been involved in the story so far is because he has history with Stephen. Stephen was the one who promised to take David to Milan to work in a clothing factory over there.

"David ruined Sarah's wedding, so as a penalty for that, Stephen took Sarah instead. David has always resented Stephen for that and it's been frosty between them both.

"They don't have many words with each other, which has probably saved David's life – that he hasn't had many scenes with him! They've always kept a distance.

"But I know 100%, when it eventually does come out, David's the first one to go: 'I always knew!'"

The actor also reflected on Coronation Street's nominations at the Inside Soap Awards, which will take place at a venue in London in September.

He said: "Corrie's had really big issue-based storylines, especially with the acid attack. That went down really well, I think.

"Obviously [we've had] Uncle Stephen and his reign of terror, the racism story that Paddy [Bever, who plays Max] had in the beginning of the year. And obviously Billy and Paul with his motor neurone disease – I think those two are playing a blinding part. It's very, very emotional what they're doing.

"I think there's some big stories that Corrie's covered this year and we deserve some awards, so if you could vote, that'd be great!"
