Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Tony Audenshaw has responded to the uncertain future facing his character Bob Hope's on-screen relationship.

Bob was left furious with his partner Wendy Posner last week when he discovered that she'd cheated on him with Liam Cavanagh.

Although Bob initially forgave Wendy and tried to repair their relationship, he bitterly questioned his decision when he learned that his friend Rishi Sharma had passed away.

Tony has now reflected on the ongoing storyline while chatting at an exclusive photoshoot for Inside Soap magazine to celebrate Emmerdale's nominations at this year's Inside Soap Awards.

The actor is up for the Best Comic Performance prize after Bob's recent antics running the B&B with Bernice Blackstock.

Digital Spy was granted exclusive video access to the nominees photoshoot and chatted to each of the cast involved.

Discussing Bob's recent heartbreak, Tony told Digital Spy: "It's interesting with this relationship – it's the first time you've seen a woman cheat on Bob. It's mainly been the other way around over the years. So it's going to be interesting to see how it's going to impact him.

"Working with Cooky [Susan Cookson, who plays Wendy] has been absolutely brilliant, I've got to say. It's been joyful.

"So to hear that [Wendy] was going to be unfaithful, it was a bit of a shock when we'd only just got together! But these situations give you lots of chances to work together and we've had some lovely scenes."

He continued: "The characters first got together when COVID struck. We shot all these scenes, but there was one scene where we were going to kiss and get together – and it wasn't shot!

"When we came back [after the first lockdown], we were all yards from each other! It was really difficult to establish a relationship at the start of it. So it's been interesting to see us probably get closer during these last few months with the affair story."

Emmerdale viewers have also recently seen Bob tempted by his B&B co-owner Bernice Blackstock, although it's currently unclear whether their romantic connection will go anywhere.

Tony enthused: "The Bernice and Bob stuff has just been great. The fabulous opening of the B&B, we really enjoyed it – there was a lot of comedy. Obviously there's a bit of chemistry there. Bob's got history with feisty women, which Bernice definitely is.

"Working with Sam [Giles, who plays Bernice] has been absolutely amazing. The three of us get on great together. It's been the happiest time I've had at work, working with the two of them."

Tony also reflected on Emmerdale's nominations at the Inside Soap Awards, which celebrate the biggest and best soap moments of the past 12 months. The ceremony will take place at a venue in London in September.

He said: "I think people should vote for Emmerdale because it's been consistently the best show this year. There's been lots of high drama, lots of great comedy, fabulous characters – why not? Vote Emmerdale!"
