Waterloo Road series 13 spoilers follow.

Waterloo Road has unveiled a first look at series 13, and Digital Spy can exclusively confirm that five new cast members will be joining the show.

The BBC school drama finished off its most recent run this week with a shocking finale, which saw pupil Danny Lewis tragically killed in a fire started by new student Myles Massey (Osian Morgan).

The series highlighted issues facing many young teens and adults today including mental health, ADHD, bulimia, the cost-of-living crisis, young carers, fostering and knife crime.

With a new term on the horizon, Waterloo Road will welcome five new cast members to the school – beginning with Hattie Dynevor as Libby Guthrie.

The actress is the daughter of Coronation Street mainstay Sally Dynevor and younger sister of Bridgerton's Phoebe Dynevor (who is also a former Waterloo Road cast member).

Other newcomers include Zak Sutcliffe as Schumacher 'Schuey' Weever, Tillie Armartey as Stace Neville, Maisie Robinson as Portia Weever, and Aabay Noor Ali as Mollie 'Mog' Richardson.

The preview clip for series 13 largely centres around both staff and students mourning Danny's death, as headteacher Kim Campbell (Angela Griffin) vows to restore the school's reputation.

"Last term, I failed," she admits. "This term, I'm putting it right. Danny Lewis's death will not be in vain."

Elsewhere, Preston Walters (Noah Valentine) is struggling to get back to his 'normal' following his collapse on the school race course and subsequent cardiac arrest.

There is also unresolved romantic tension for headteacher Kim and returning favourite Andrew Treneman (Jamie Glover) as they are briefly shown in a clinch even after Andrew promises they'll have a "hands off" policy at work.

Waterloo Road has a rich history of nurturing new talent and has kickstarted the careers of Jenna Coleman, Jodie Comer, Lucien Laviscount, Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page to name a few.

The series is currently the BBC's second most popular drama title with 16-34 year olds in 2023, behind Happy Valley.

All Waterloo Road episodes from series 11 and 12 are available to watch in full on BBC iPlayer.
