Extraordinary designs at China's ice festival

The annual ice sculpting contest in Harbin in the Heilongjiang province, China, kicked off on Monday (January 6).

Thirty teams entered this year's competition from countries including USA, Russia, Korea, Mongolia, Canada and India.

"For more than 20 years I've been dreaming of coming to this place and competing in this competition," said Roger Wing, an ice sculpture artist from the U.S.

He added, "this year is a dream come true. The weather is cold but perfect for ice carving."

The competition is part of Harbin's 36th annual International Ice and Snow Sculpture festival that features other events such as winter swimming, the grand ice world and a snow wedding.
