SINGAPORE — A family of three was hospitalised after allegedly eating food from hotpot chain Haidilao's Northshore Plaza outlet in Punggol.

In a joint statement shared with Yahoo Southeast Asia on Thursday (21 March), the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Environment Agency (NEA), said they received a report of the incident on 10 March.

The authorities are investigating the incident. According to local media The Straits Times, two out of the three are believed to be children.

Haidilao confirmed with Yahoo on Friday morning (22 March) that the group of three visited the outlet for lunch on 10 March. Four days later, it received feedback from the customers, who claimed that they had fallen ill.

Inspections carried out, Haidilao currently awaiting results

Haidilao said its Northshore Plaza outlet has expressed its condolences to the customers.

According to Haidilao, it promptly followed up by cooperating with the relevant departments for inspections that were carried out on 16 and 18 March. Food products, test reports, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage related to the meals served on 10 March were provided.

While a total of 220 tables were served at the outlet that day, feedback was only received from one table, Haidilao said, adding that it is currently awaiting inspection results.

The hotpot chain also said food safety is of "great importance", and has established a strict food safety prevention and control mechanism.

"Internal quality inspectors conduct food safety inspections daily, and third-party professional agencies are invited to disinfect and sterilise the premises every half a month. We will continue to improve the stability and safety of food quality," said Haidilao.

The Straits Times also reported that the Northshore Plaza outlet is still in operation.
