“Felicity” Alum and Author Erich Anderson Dead at 67 After Cancer Diagnosis

Actor Erich Anderson, who is best known for his roles in Felicity and Thirtysomething, has died at the age of 67.

Anderson’s wife, actress Saxon Trainor, confirmed the news on Instagram. She said that he died in his Los Angeles home on Saturday, June 1, after being diagnosed with cancer, though she did not specify what type of cancer he had.

Trainor shared a photo of the actor in the post, along with words from her brother-in-law, Michael O’Malley, who described Anderson’s cancer diagnosis as a “brutal struggle.” He added, “I’ll miss him but his ordeal is over.”

“He had a long successful career as an actor," O’Malley wrote, noting that "he was Felicity’s father" on Felicity and "he was killed in a basement in a" Friday the 13th sequel. He added that Anderson "was on Star Trek and dozens of other shows.”

O’Malley also described the actor’s many attributes, sharing that he was “a smart and funny guy” and a “fantastic cook.”

Anderson began acting in the 1980’s, earning his breakout role in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. He went on to star in several TV shows and movies over the next two decades, earning credits on Star Trek: The Next Generation, NCIS, 7th Heaven, ER and The X-Files.

He also had recurring roles in several shows including Bay City Blues as Bobby Stang, Thirtysomething as Billy SIdel, NYPD Blue as Don Kirkendall and Felicity as the main character’s father, Dr. Edward Porter.

Actress Eva Gordon, who starred opposite Anderson in Felicity, shared a heartfelt tribute to the actor following his death on Instagram. She shared a screenshot of the pair playing Felicity’s mother and father on the hit show, alongside the words, “My beautiful friend, Erich Anderson, has said goodbye.”

"He was a magnificent part of the world,” she continued. “I loved him. I wish you’d known him, there was no one like him. So funny, so open to whatever the day brought him, so wickedly cynical and joyous at once.”

“After JJ and Matt on Felicity made us get divorced, I saw him less on set, but was always happy when we found each other in LA, we’d hang out and talk for hours. He was so smart,” she concluded.

In addition to acting, Anderson was also an author. He published his first novel, Hallowed Be Thy Name, in 2012, followed by Thy Kingdom Come and Rabbit: A Golf Fable in 2014 and 2022, respectively.
