Female stalker, 22, told date's boss he was drug addict when he cooled relationship

A jealous woman told the workplace of a man she met on a dating app that he was a drug addict when he tried back away from their relationship after they had a one-night stand in a hotel.

Irina-Alexandra Resteanu, 22 rang Joseph Collins' bosses and falsely told them he was abusing narcotics when he told her he could not see her for three weeks due to work commitments.

In a campaign of anger over the summer, single mother Resteanu who had only been on two dates with Collins, bombarded him with 150 abusive messages over Snapchat in just four days leaving him barely able to conduct normal conversations with his friends.

He called the police hoping officers would warn her off but she contacted his colleagues at a firm of electrical contractors to wrongly tell them he took drugs before arriving for work and threatened to contact his former employers to repeat the slur.

In a statement to police Collins, of Mobberley in Cheshire, said he had suffered psychological harm and added: "During the time of the incident I did not know how bad it would get. I very quickly sank into a depression and a huge drop in mood which was noticed by others.

"I was not my normal self. I struggled with the loss of conversation and was worried about how bad it was going to get.

"I struggled with focusing at work and with everyday tasks. I found myself losing my sense of humour and confidence.

“I found that it was all I could think about. The worst part was the bad headspace was getting more intense as the harassment and stalking progressed.

“I was quickly feeling trapped and powerless. I did not know what to do. At one point I felt that if I contacted the police she would get worse.”

Collins said that after having only met Resteanu on a couple of occasions, he worried what she was capable of.

Resteanu pleaded guilty to stalking and was sentenced to an 18-month community order with 80 hours of unpaid work.

Natasha McAdam, prosecuting, asked the magistrates for compensation and also a restraining order.

Solicitor Philip Green, representing Resteanu, said that she was remorseful and asked that she be given credit for making a prompt guilty plea at the first hearing.

Green pointed out she had no previous convictions and said: "She is a single mother looking after a child on her own.

"Clearly there has been a situation where the parties met on a dating website and it's clear that both parties were wanting something different from the relationship.

Resteanu was also ordered to complete 25 days of rehabilitation activity and pay £236 in costs and a victim surcharge.

She was also banned from contacting Collins for two years under the terms of a restraining order.
