A 19-year-old man was arrested following a fight on a city bus on Wednesday, the fourth violent incident on Saskatoon city buses this month.

The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) said they were called to a bus stop in the 1200 block of 8th Street at about 10:30 p.m. when three men were reported fighting on the bus.

According to an SPS news release, the responding officers heard that one of the men had made inappropriate verbal advances toward a group of underage girls.

The two other men confronted him and a fight broke out before all three of the men fled from the bus, according to the news release.

Officers found one of the men, believed to be intoxicated, trying to get on a nearby parked city bus.

Police said the 19-year-old suspect, who they said spit in a constable's face during his arrest, has been charged with assaulting a police officer and failure to comply with release conditions.

The officers weren't able to find the other two men.

The attacks on Saskatoon's buses in May include:

  • May 1, an 18-year-old man is sent to hospital after being stabbed.

  • May 24, a man, 20, and 15-year-old girl are hospitalized with stab wounds after an altercation.

  • On Monday, a Saskatoon bus driver was treated at hospital after being assaulted on the job.
