As high temperatures sweep across Newfoundland and Labrador — and seven wildfires still burning — the provincial government is imposing a fire ban.

The news was released through the provincial government's fire hazard map website Thursday afternoon.

The entirety of the island is under the ban, while in Labrador it's only for communities north of Hopedale.

Premier Andrew Furey is giving an update on the wildfires near Churchill Falls at 1 p.m. NT.
