Fire blazed over 3 floors at 141 Yishun Ring Rd, 10 sent to SGH
SINGAPORE — Ten people, including a police officer, were taken to the Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation, following a multiple-unit fire that broke out at a Housing Board flat in Yishun on Tuesday (29 June) morning.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in a Facebook post said that it was alerted to the fire at Block 141 Yishun Ring Road around 8.30am.
The fire was confined to the master bedrooms of three flats on the third, fourth and fifth floors of the affected block, with smoke damage sustained throughout the three units.
It was extinguished with three water jets.
"At the height of the firefighting operation, an additional water jet was used from the exterior of the block to suppress the fire which was leaping out from the bedroom windows," said the SCDF.
About 100 residents on the second through the 10th floor evacuated on their own prior to the SCDF's arrival.
"Five off-duty SCDF personnel, who were in the vicinity, rendered assistance with medical and firefighting operations," the SCDF said.
Speaking to local media at the block’s void deck, Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said that the residents of a handful of “badly affected” units had been given temporary shelter at Chong Pang Community Club.
Occupants whose units were involved in the fire had been provided temporary housing.
The Member of Parliament for Nee Soon GRC added that he will speak to them about further assistance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
