SINGAPORE — Three stalls at the 112 Bukit Merah Market and Food Centre in Redhill were damaged after a fire on Tuesday (19 March), the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a post on Facebook. According to the SCDF, the fire was likely to have originated from the battery pack of a power-assisted bicycle (PAB).

There were no reported injuries, SCDF's Facebook post said. The SCDF was alerted to the fire at Block 112 Jalan Bukit Merah at about 5.35pm on Tuesday.

The fire was extinguished by firefighters from the Central Fire Station.

PAB battery suspected as cause

Preliminary investigation indicates that the fire likely started from the battery pack of the PAB, according to SCDF.

To prevent PAB fires, the SCDF reminded the public "not to leave batteries or devices charging for a prolonged period or charging them unattended overnight".

"In addition, do not purchase or use non-original batteries," the SCDF said in its post.

This incident occurred approximately three hours after a similar one in Clementi, where a charging personal mobility aid caught fire in a flat, resulting in three individuals being taken to the hospital.
