First jobseekers graduate from new carers course
The first students have graduated from a new course for carers in Guernsey.
Nine people have received a care certificate after completing the first Pathway to Caring course.
The free seven-week course, which started in April, was aimed at people looking for jobs and included four weeks of practical work in a clinical setting.
Elaine Burgess, director of care delivery for Health & Social Care (HSC), said she was delighted the students had completed the course and her team would support them into work by organising "conversations between them and the job centre, recruitment agencies, and private care homes".
The course, which is a joint initiative between HSC and employment & social security, aims to give people the "skills and behaviours expected of specific job roles in the health and social care sectors".
Mrs Burgess said she hoped the course would be run again in future.
