First look at Barbie star Issa Rae's new show Young Love
The first trailer for Max animated series Young Love, featuring the voice of Barbie star Issa Rae, has landed.
Starring Rae and Kid Cudi, Young Love tells the story of a devoted Black father who tries to learn how to style his young daughter Zuri's hair.
The series is based on the 2019 animation Hair Love by ex-NFL player Matthew A. Cherry, which won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. Rae lended her voice to Hair Love playing Zuri's mother, while Cherry played her dad.

The trailer shows Zuri having her hair done by her mother and imagining herself on a red carpet alongside Regina King. However, Zuri feels her hairstyle is too immature and after her mother leaves, her dad gives her Afro puffs for school.
Speaking about the series at San Diego Comic-Con, Cherry said (via Entertainment Weekly): "The great thing about animation is that you can tell a story that's specific but universal.

"It has themes of being a parent, being a young child trying to make your way through the world, being a grandparent trying to deal with ageism.
"The packaging is obviously very specific because we're dealing with a young Black family in Chicago. But the themes are universal."
Meanwhile, Rae is currently starring alongside Margot Robbie in Barbie as President Barbie, who resides in a pink version of the White House.
Speaking to Digital Spy earlier this month, Rae shared her hilarious first reaction to the film's set, saying: "It was a dream. It was a pink wet dream.
"It was beautiful. The childhood version of me just immediately got excited and it put me in the mood to be a doll. You're in a living dollhouse neighbourhood. It was everything I dreamed of."
Young Love debuts on Max later this year.
