Maps show where flood warnings are in place across UK

Flooding is expected across some areas in the UK this week, the Environment Agency has warned.

The EA said local coastal flooding was probable for the River Wye estuary on Monday and Tuesday. It added flooding was also possible but not expected in the South West and the North of England until Tuesday.

The government agency also said that local flooding from rivers and surface water was possible but not expected for many parts of England on Wednesday and possible on Thursday. It added that land, roads, and some properties would flood, and there would be travel disruption as a result.

It comes after the Met Office issued two yellow weather warnings for rain across parts of England and the EA said there were 75 flood warnings and 262 flood alerts by Saturday evening. The Met Office also issued a yellow weather warning for rain covering the East Midlands, the East of England, the North East and Yorkshire and the Humber, which ran through to Sunday noon.

It warned that “some flooding is likely” and there could be transport disruption as many areas will see 10-15mm of rain, with the wettest spots getting 25-30mm. This is falling on already saturated ground.

Maximum temperature 8C. In West Midlands a bright and breezy day with sunny periods and cloudier spells. An isolated shower is possible in the west, but many places remaining dry. Feeling a bit colder. Maximum temperature 9C.

• Tuesday to Thursday

In East Midlands a bright start on Tuesday with increasing cloud and rain, occasionally heavy arriving overnight. Low cloud with outbreaks of rain on Wednesday, becoming breezy over hills. Further rain arriving Thursday. In West Midlands staying changeable with periods of rain or showers, heavy at times. Some drier spells can be expected too, perhaps with some brightness in places. Often breezy, and becoming mild.

North-East

• Monday

The morning starts cloudy with showers, possibility wintry over the Pennines. Brighter spells developing by late morning, becoming largely dry, until blustery showers spread more widely late in the day. Maximum temperature 6C.

• Tuesday to Thursday

A bright and breezy start on Tuesday with increasing cloud and rain arriving overnight. Low cloud with outbreaks of rain on Wednesday, becoming breezy over hills. Further rain arriving Thursday.

North-West

Northern Ireland

Cloudy with bright spells, a band of showers passes eastwards through the afternoon. Becoming drier and brighter towards evening. Maximum temperature 7C.

• Tuesday to Thursday

Cloudy with the occasional shower Tuesday. Rain, persistent at times, will spread north from Tuesday night. Cloudy with rain at times on Wednesday, turning drier on Thursday.
