A Florida man is accused of running over his elderly father multiple times with his truck and then fleeing the scene of the fatal incident, according to police statements and court records.

Mark McKeown, 61, was booked into the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, jail records show.

According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, police responded Saturday evening to a bar regarding what the statement termed a “fatal hit and run” and found 86-year-old Thomas McKeown, who had been “struck and dragged by a black pickup truck” in the parking lot.

According to investigators, Thomas seemingly fell in front of the black pickup truck as it was backing into a parking space and the driver then ran him over, “dragging him” in the parking lot.

The truck then allegedly reversed and moved forward multiple times, running over the elderly man every time, the statement added. The truck then left the scene, and Mark was allegedly later identified as the driver.

Thomas was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the statement.

Mark's bond was set at $50,000 and he was released from custody on Sunday, jail records show.

The police statement said the investigation is ongoing, but it's not immediately clear if there may be additional charges. Court records did not have any attorney listed for Mark as of Monday afternoon.
