Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has responded to U.S. President Joe Biden's statement that there is no need for Ukraine to join NATO in an interview with news agency Ukrinform on June 8 by stating that this is a matter of a window of opportunity.

"President Biden unequivocally supports Ukraine, and we are grateful to him for everything he has done for our country in these difficult and crucial years," he said.

The American leader sincerely wants Ukraine to defeat Russian aggression, the diplomat added.

Kuleba believes that Ukraine's membership in NATO is a historical reality. The country will be in the Alliance, because in the modern world it is impossible to imagine the security of the Euro-Atlantic community without Ukraine and its armed forces.

Biden said on June 4 that, in his understanding, peace in Ukraine is when the aggressor state, Russia, will no longer be able to occupy the country, and Ukraine's membership in NATO is not necessary.

The American leader admitted that he was one of those who was not ready to support Ukraine's "NATOization" (i.e., the country's membership in the Alliance).
