Footage shows survivors stranded on steps after well cover collapses at Indian temple, killing 35

A structure built over an old temple well in India collapsed Thursday 30 March as a large crowd of devotees prayed at a festival for Rama.

At least 35 people have died and dozens more were injured after falling into the well at the Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal temple in central India’s Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

Footage shows the aftermath of the incident, as a number of survivors stood stranded on the well steps while a woman was pulled free.

Shivraj Chauhan, the state’s top elected official, said the structure gave way under the weight of visiting crowd.
