Former AEW wrestler Brian Pillman Jr has undergone a name change ahead of his WWE debut.

On Tuesday's episode (October 10) NXT aired a new vignette for Pillman, revealing he's undergone a name change.

In the video Pillman was seen watching clips of his father, late WWE Superstar Brian Pillman, who also worked in WCW and ECW.

Pillman then said: "My father was one of the most infamous superstars in this business. Everywhere I go, people stop to tell me, 'Man, I loved your dad. Such a trailblazer he was.'

"It seems like everybody has such fond memories of my father. Well you know who doesn't? Me. His own damn son."

Pillman went on to say he'd tried everything to escape the memory of his father, who died in 1997, but he was unable to escape wrestling.

"But when they see this face, I don't want them to think about my dead father. I want them to think about me. I'm nobody's junior," he continued.

"And from this day forward, I am going to take on the last name of the real man who raised me, the real father figure in my life. And his name was King. And now so is mine."

While Pillman hasn't revealed his new first name, WWE recently filled to trademark the name Lexis King. Pillman previously wrestled under the name Alex King, as a tribute to his late sister Alexis.

Pillman had been working in AEW as part of the Varsity Blondes tag team with Griff Garrison. His contract expired in July 2023 after which he departed the company.
