Former Home and Away star Jake Ryan pays heartbreaking tribute following death of family member

Yesterday (September 7), former Home and Away star Jake Ryan posted a heartbreaking, touching tribute to his grandfather Lionel Ryan after he died in his sleep.

Ryan toasted to "the king of the Ryan clan" with a collection of sweet photos he shared on his Instagram.

Amongst the photos were snaps of a colourfully dressed Lionel, pictures of the two together, and photos of Lionel with his grandkids, including Jake's son Wolf, who he shares with fiancée Alice Quiddington.

In the caption, Ryan wrote: "This one hurts and I've been dreading this day for a while. Pop, Red, Redbull, the king of the Ryan clan passed away in his sleep peacefully last night."

Ryan continued: "Can't find the words or fathom the enormity of this loss just yet. He was, 'The Ryan family' and there's a very big whole left in his absence. Those who knew him will understand what I mean.

"Those who never had the privilege to meet him or have a yarn, I'm sorry. Miss you terribly already Pop. Rest easy up there and I'm sure Aaron is looking after you. XXX"

Sam Frost, who portrayed Ryan's onscreen wife Jasmine, said she was "sending love Jakey," while Brody Morgan actor Jackson Heywood wrote: "Big love mate. So sorry for your loss."

Ryan starred in Home and Away from 2017 to 2020 and played Ryan Shaw, who was famously and dramatically killed during the January season premiere in 2020.

Ryan left the show to pursue film opportunities.
