Former X Factor USA judge Britney Spears "hated" being on the show
Britney Spears has revealed that she "absolutely hated" being a judge on the second season of reality show The X Factor USA.
Writing in her recently released memoir The Woman in Me, Spears has shared her experience on the show, which she co-judged alongside Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato and producer L.A. Reid in 2012.
“I think a lot of people are really professional on TV, like Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani. When the camera’s on them, they thrive. And that’s great," she wrote.
"I used to be able to do that when I was younger, but again, I feel like I age backwards when I’m afraid."

Continuing in the excerpt, she wrote: “And so I got to where I was very, very nervous if I knew I had to be on air, and I didn’t like being nervous all day long…
"If you’ve got me a cute cameo on a fun TV show where I’m in and out in a day that’s one thing, but to act sceptical for eight straight hours while judging on TV? Uh, no thank you. I absolutely hated it."
When Spears was announced as a judge on the show, Cowell said: "Britney remains one of the biggest stars in the world, she's talented, fascinating – and I believe she knows exactly how to spot the X factor."
The X Factor USA only lasted for three seasons between 2011 to 2013, with a reboot recently announced by Cowell.

The Woman in Me is a tell-all memoir from the pop princess, described as "a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope."
The book, the audio version of which is narrated by actress Michelle Williams, also covers the conservatorship under which Spears was placed for 13 years. The legal arrangement, which was terminated in 2021, allowed Britney's father to control her finances and even medical procedures.
A synopsis revealed: "Written with remarkable candour and humour, Spears's groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love - and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last."
