Formerly Conjoined Twins Celebrate 1st Birthday: 'They Are So Incredibly Strong,' Mom Says

A pair of formerly conjoined twins recently celebrated their very first birthday!

Ella and Eliza Fuller were born conjoined at the abdomen at Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women on March 1, 2023, according to a previous news release from the hospital. The sisters were surgically separated on June 14, and went home for the first time just a few weeks later.

Ella and Eliza, who celebrated their first birthday earlier this month, are “thriving” after one year of life, their mother Sandy Fuller tells PEOPLE.

"They are so incredibly strong and as healthy as can be," she adds.

Sandy marked the twin’s first birthday with a heartwarming Instagram post featuring a special message for her “miracle babies.”

“My heart is filled with so much gratitude, especially today,” she wrote alongside some adorable photographs of the twins from their special birthday bash. “Ella & Eliza, you girls have no idea what an impact you each have been in so many lives thus far! I love you so much.”

The twins now go “everywhere” together, Sandy said during a recent interview with Today.

Though they are hard to tell apart, Ella and Eliza have distinct personalities, according to their parents. Jesse told the outlet that Eliza is more like him, “laid back” and on the “quiet side,” while Ella “wants attention all the time.”

The parents also said their oldest daughter “loves” having her younger sisters around and spending time with them.

Despite everything the twins went through early in life, their mom tells PEOPLE you'd never know it.

“You can look at them and you would never think they were conjoined 8 months ago,” Sandy tells PEOPLE. “We are so blessed to be able to share God’s miracles in our girls with the world.”
